윈도우용 응용프로그램 (Application)은 수없이 많은 종류가 많은 개발자들에 의해 하루에도 수백,수천개가 새로 출시되고 그보더 더 많은 수의 프로그램들이 업데이트 됩니다. 이들 응용프로그램 (Application)은 비율을 지불해야하는 상용프로그램과 정품 구매를 확대하기 위해 공급하는 일종의 샘플 개념의 쉐어웨어, 무료로 사용할 수 있는 프리웨어등으로 크게 3가지로 나뉘게 되는데요.
물론 프리웨어에도 개인만 사용할 있다던가, 기업이나 관공서에서도 사용이 가능하다던가, 소스까지 같이 공개하여 맘대로 수정과 배포가 가능한 완전 무료등의 추가 분류가 필요합니다.
